Mental Health First Aid is a 6-hour online course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, helping the public identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness.
The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Self-directed learning will be completed between 8:30-11:00 AM.
Topics include:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Substance use
• Disorders in which psychosis may occur
• Disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD)
• Eating disorders
