Description

This four-part training will build on the Identifying a Language Difference vs. Disorder training. These sessions will focus on preparing monolingual English speakers to conduct thorough, reliable, and non-biased evaluations of bilingual students.

Part 1 Objectives:

  • Identify red flags for language disorders in the EL population
  • Complete a guided reflection based on an EL student from your school/district
  • Receive a “toolkit” to support documenting concerns prior to referral
  • Increase collaboration between special education staff and EL staff during the evaluation process

Part 2 Objectives:

  • Review red flags and application of previous knowledge
  • Understand their role in the “Interpreters & SLPs: Working Together” relationship
  • Assess the readiness of their own “toolkit” for bilingual language evaluation
  • Understand the important components in a bilingual language evaluation report

Attendees: SLPs, School Psychs, EL staff & coordinators. special education teachers who complete evaluations, bilingual teachers, LEAs, diagnosticians, and others who participate frequently on evaluation teams

Team participation is highly encouraged!

If you are uncertain if your district is a CESA #1 Title III Consortium member or CESA #1 Independent Public Charter school, please confirm with Kristy Schroeder prior to registering. Districts that are not will be billed in full regardless of fee option selected.

Participants must attend the Part 1 (days 1 & 2) training in order to attend Part 2.
